PHENYLBUTAZONE INJECTION

DESCRIPTION

UNIVET PHENYLBUTAZONE INJECTION is used as an anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic agent to aid in the treatment of painful arthritic or musculoskeletal syndromes in horses, such as osteoarthritis, arthritis, bursitis, posterior weakness or paralysis, rhumatism, inflammation of the skin and other soft tissues.

FORMULA

Each mL contains

Sodium Phenylbutazone 200mg

p-chloro-cresol (preservative) 0.2%

DOSAGE

HORSES: Inject by slow intravenous injection, 2.5 to 5.0 mL (0.5 - 1.0g) per 250kg of body weight daily. Maximum allowed daily dose is 4 grams regardless of the body weight. Do not treat for more than 5 consecutive days.

CAUTIONS

For intravenous use only. Do not administer to animals afflicted with serious cardiac, renal or hepatic disease or those with hemocytological disorders. Stop medication oat the first sign of gastro-intestinal upsets, jaundice or blood dycrasis. Specific anti-microbial therapy should be administered concurrently with phenylbutazone in the treatment of inflammatory conditions associated with infections. Reduce dosage as symptoms regress. If no response is noted within 4-5 days, the diagnosis should be re-evaluated. Care should be taken to avoid perivascular administrations as severe swelling or necrosis at the site of injection may occur.

STORAGE

Store at room temperature. ( 15 - 30 celcius).
