Equix combines Trimethoprim and Sulfadiazine - one of the most widely used combination in veterinary medicine. The addition of trimethoprim to a sulfa drug forms a potentiated sulfa. The combination exhibits a greater spectrum of activity against microorganisms that cause infectious disease.
Equix can kill a variety of bacteria. An additional effect of Equix is an ability to kill or suppress certain intracellular parasites, particularly Coccidia spp. and the microorganism responsible for the disease Toxoplasmosis.
Equix Oral Paste is used to treat infections likely to be susceptible to the drug. The include:
- Respiratory Tract Infections
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
- Urogenital Infections
- Perioperative Infections
INDICATIONS
Equix oral paste is suitable for the treatment of bacterial infections susceptible to Trimethoprim and Sulfadiazine in horses. Equix Oral Paste is indicated where the control of bacterial infections is required during treatment of acute strangles, respiratory tract infections, acute urogenital infections, and wound infections and abscesses.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not administer to animals with a known sulfonamide sensitivity or with severe liver parenchymal disease.
DIRECTION FOR USE
Administer Equix Paste orally at the rate of 30mg/kg bodyweight daily (or 15mg/kg bodyweight in 2 divided doses 12 hours apart). Treatment should be continued for at least 2 days after the symptoms yhave subsided.
